Receive Memo Bank account notifications in Slack

The Memo Bank Slack app posts a message in the channel of your choice when something important happens on one of your accounts. This guide explains how to activate it, what it shares with Slack, and how to deactivate it.

What the integration does

You create notification rules, and Memo Bank posts a message in Slack whenever a rule is triggered. Two rules are available:

  • Low balance alert: when an account balance drops below the threshold you set.
  • Incoming transaction: every time a transaction is received on one of your accounts.

The integration is one-way: Memo Bank sends information to Slack. No banking operation can be triggered from Slack.

Prerequisites

  • an active Memo Bank business account;
  • a Slack workspace where you are allowed to install apps, or approval from a Slack admin;
  • a Slack channel to receive the notifications.

Activate the integration

  1. In Memo Bank, open Applications, then the Slack app page.
  2. Click Activate this application, at the top right of the page.
  3. Follow the instructions to connect your Slack account: select the workspace, then authorize Memo Bank.
  4. Back in Memo Bank, add your notification rules.

Each rule defines the event type, the account, the threshold (for a low balance alert), and the destination Slack channel. You can create as many rules as you need, pointing to different channels.

What Memo Bank posts in Slack

Messages only contain the information needed for the notification: the account, the amount, and — for an incoming transaction — the name of the sender.

These messages are visible to every member of the channel. Pick a channel whose audience matches the sensitivity of that information, for example a private channel reserved for your finance team.

Deactivate the integration

From Memo Bank

  1. Open Applications , then the Slack app page.
  2. Deactivate the connection.

Notifications for that connection stop immediately. The app stays installed in your Slack workspace: if several people connected the same workspace, their connections keep working.

From Slack

  1. In Slack, open Settings & administration, then Manage apps.
  2. Select Memo Bank, then remove the app.

All connections to that workspace are then deactivated, and appear as such in Memo Bank.
